Job Description: Under the direct mentorship and supervision of members of the Bet Nahrain Assyrian Heritage Centre- Board of Directors, the Special Events Coordinator will assist in the planning and execution of various mid-to large- scale activities/events in Hamilton and the surrounding area.

 

Responsibilities:  

  • Assist in the planning of existing cultural, community outreach, and sporting events in Hamilton

  • Work as part of a team to scout and book- locations, food vendors, entertainment, event volunteers, and clean-up teams

  • Ensure event budgets are tracked and adhered to

  • Develop and distribute info kits and promotional materials

  • Research and connect with potential sponsors to secure funding/merchandise/equipment

  • Produce and distribute satisfaction surveys to attendees at events

  • Creating and manage lists to ensure all event/activity related tasks and deadlines are met.

  • Propose a new fundraising event that incorporates Assyrian heritage/culture/traditions.

  • Some evening and weekend work will be required

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • A student 15-30 years of age who has an intent to return to school next term.

  • Previous experience in any type of event planning and/or a passion to gain more skills in this area.

  • Detail oriented and creative

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Comfortable with, and/or skilled at, making cold calls

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office programs

  • Interest in Assyrian culture and heritage is an asset
